What is a one-trip shipping container?
A one-trip container is built new at the factory, loaded with cargo once and shipped on a single voyage, usually from Asia to the U.S., then sold. It's essentially new: clean, straight, structurally sound and wind and watertight, with only light handling marks.
Is a one-trip container the same as a new container?
For buyers, yes. "New" in the container trade means one-trip, because almost every new container is loaded with cargo on its first trip over. Expect a few scuffs from loading, but no rust, dents or repairs.
How much does a one-trip shipping container cost?
Prices depend on the size and your nearest depot. Today one-trip 20' Standard containers start at $2,195, 40' Standard at our local price and 40' High Cube at $2,995, before delivery. Enter your ZIP for a delivered price.
One-trip vs. used (cargo-worthy or wind & watertight): which should I buy?
Used containers cost less up front but have spent 10 to 15 years at sea, so they carry rust, dents, patched panels and stiff doors. A one-trip container lasts 20 to 30 years with basic care, looks clean on a property, and is the better base for paint, shelving or a workspace.
How long does a one-trip container last?
With basic upkeep (keeping the roof clear, touching up scratches and setting it level) a one-trip container lasts 20 to 30 years or more.
How is a one-trip container delivered?
By tilt-bed truck, which slides the container onto the ground where you want it. Plan for about 75 ft of straight approach for a 20' (100 ft for a 40'), 12 ft of width, 14 ft of overhead clearance and firm, level ground.
